Location is one important factor when deciding where to locate a business, but location means nothing if you don’t have transportation options for you to get your products moving across the country. That’s why the Iowa Connections region can help your business thrive. With 9 airports, 4 railroads and its central location, the area has so much more than location, location, location!

Connect with Ground Transportation

Interstate 80, a major east/west interstate bisects the Iowa Connections region and I-35 and I-380 offer north/south routes on either end of the region, so no area with Iowa Connections is more than 30 minutes from the Interstates. I-80 offers convenient and fast trucking to major cities like Omaha (3 hours) and Chicago (4 hours.) Highway 30, another major artery in central Iowa, also gives an easy and convenient alternative to Interstate traffic.

Railroad systems are another important method of transportation. Railways in the United States carry 42 percent of the nation’s freight. Four major railroad companies are active in the region. They include:

  • Burlington Northern Santa Fe
  • Chicago, Central & Pacific
  • Iowa Interstate Railroad
  • Union Pacific

In addition to the railways, the only intermodal transportation facility in Central Iowa is located in Newton – on the western edge of the Iowa Connections region.

And if the ground transportation options aren’t enough to bring a business to Iowa, an added incentive to serve national and international markets from Iowa is the state’s single-factor tax system, which provides for no tax on products and services sold outside of Iowa.

Connect with Air Transportation

Regional airports in the area include:

  • Grinnell Regional
  • Marshalltown Municipal
  • Newton Municipal Airport
  • Vinton Veterans Memorial Airpark
Other local airports include:
  • Sully Municipal Airport
  • Montezuma Sig Field
  • Belle Plaine Municipal
  • Toledo Municipal
  • Traer Municipal

In addition, commercial passenger and freight service is available in Des Moines, Waterloo and Cedar Rapids, all just a short drive from anywhere in the Iowa Connections region.

Nine airports in the region cater to a wide variety of business and personal travel. No area is more than 30 minutes away from an airport. Air service is an important factor to consider when relocating a business. Not only does it impact emergency health and safety services, but it provides another option to get you and your customers from here to there.
